Hello i am new to marine tanks and have set up a 33 gal red sea tank. i have added a koreala 1 pump behind my 20 kilos of live rock to keep refuse from settling. my salinity has been constant at .0200 but i have been advised to up to .024 due tto the fact that it is a reef aquarium. I have 1 emerald crab, 1 sally light foot. 12 Blue legged/scarlet hermit crabs, 3 Turbo snails(having trouble keeping alive), 12 Margarita snails, 1 sand sifting star, 1 red cucumber, 2 Porcelin crabs, 3 Dovetail snails, 2 Pyramid Snails, 1 pom pom crab, 2 Camel shrimp, 2 fire shrimp, 2 cleaner shrimp, 1 pearly jawfish, 2 green chrimis(soon to go), 2 True Perculas, 1 Rusty angel, button polops, green torch coral.

I do regular water changes of a minimum of 25% bi weekly. i test for Phasphate, Carbonate, Nitrate, nitrite, and Calcium, on a fairly regular basis aswell. all levels are always within reason. Will post levels later as i donot record test levels.

My question is i have a orange algae growing on my walls rock and substrat that i have only managed to solw the growth by having the light off for all but a few hours of the day. this has obvouisly killed my seahare. i have been told coppoer will take care of this, however i am always weiry to add anything to my tank for fear of my inverts.

ANY, TIPS PLEASE

I will be posting a pic(s) of my tank later with all my levels i am however unsure of how much water is being moved due to the fact that my tank is a red sea and all (skimmer pumps ETC...) was built in . nice luxury however a pain in the A$$ to clean. i also am unaware of the light quality i will be trying to find out this info in the near future

Thanks for any feed back.

Most algae problems stem from the fact that po4 is not well-controlled, the testkits can hardly tell you anything accurately, but the fact lies that if nuisance algae grows profusely, po4 is the problem... suggest you set up some form of po4 removal media in your tank setup... a media reactor would be ideal, once the po4 is controlled, you can see improvement on the nuisance algae growth... smile.gif

Also, the lack of light would not kill your seahare, you sure it's not hiding somewhere? Also, copper would not do any good for your algae problem...DO NOT USE IT!! smile.gif

Cheers! wink.gif
