Hi Reefers,

I've a 3-inch Maxima clam. It was a gorgeous blue when i bot it in Jan08. The colour is now brown with bluish tinge.

My lighting is a 250watt MH and an actinic blue tube.

Any idea how I can prevent the colour change?

It seems only squamosa is successful in my tank. I have a huge squammie that has been with me for more than a year.

Did you try feeding phytoplankton?

Raise it up in the tank.

Yup, IanJ's probably right too... the clam can be losing colour due to a lack of light... smile.gif

maybe you might want to consider lower kelvin bulb. They need much more light than we think especially with those colorful ones. The brighter the color, the more light they need. Otherwise, i beleive they will house more brown zoozanthellae to convert light to food. Just my guess on the zoozanthellae part smile.gif Hope this helps.

I have experienced this several times. In particular with 14000K bulbs. Over time the bright blue colour changed towards brown. The clams were either on the bottom or low down in the tank. After rasing them up, over a few months the colours returned.
