Got this monti from a reefer here a few weeks back. It has been doing well and seeing some growth on the edges. But last couple of days noticed these white spots appearing on the surface. Is it bleaching or growth? Affected areas are circled in red.
I'm using 2x150W HQI 12K with 2x T5 actinics. MH is on 8hrs a day, actinics are on 3 hrs before and after the MH lights.
Tank parameters
Sg 1.025
pH 8.2
KH 2.5 meq/L
PO4 0.25 ppm (a bit high, trying to reduce)
N03 <1 ppm
Ca 440 ppm
Mg 1380 ppm
Whats wrong with my Monitpora?

I'm thinking your photoperiod is a little long. 8 hours MH, total of 14 hours...
Looks like bleaching of the monti

Thanks MbmC, There is overlap of my actinics and MH timings so total photoperiod is 10-11hrs. Actinics ON 12pm-2pm and 7pm-11pm, MH ON 1pm-9pm. Anyway, today I observed that the white patches have started to turn brown, so maybe its growth (fingers crossed). Will observe for the next few days and update.

Well, good for me the white areas are actually growth. But strange, since I thought the growth usually at the edges.

The growth pattern will depend on the lighting and flow as well. So it is not always outwards.

That's interesting. I also thought that monti growth is at the edges

i don't think its growing or bleaching....can't really tell from your pictures.....maybe a closer zoom will provide a better picture....
Bleaching tends to be big patches instead of white spots....if growth on monti from the middle part, you will tend to see ridges forming (which from your pictures can't tell clearly)
dirt or particles settling on it can cause some spot to die. also those monti eating nudi can also cause white patches to show...

Here is an updated photo. The white spots gradually turned brown and quite obvious is the circled area which looks like grew a little 'hill'.
