Dear all,

I'm new to SPS keeping and i have an 'odd' question to ask...

My sps polyps extend alot more in the nite (i.e. almost total darkness except for 2 hydor moonlight) than in the day (under my T5: 4x39W white + 2x39 blue)... aren't they suppose to be 'happier' under brighter conditions???

Enlighten me, anyone? Thanks!!!

Regards,
Jones

Night time = feeding time for most corals, therefore extra extension is for them to 'capture' any passing by food, for eg. DT's Oyster Eggs or Reef Nutrition OysterFeast, or Korallen Zucht products will do the job smile.gif

oic... thanks! smile.gif

by the way, what's the best/ simplest way to enhance/ boosts the colours of sps? i checked my calcium level recently, its about 440-460ppm... my doses are Aquapharm A&B, Iodine and PurpleUp... everything seems ok but the colours aren't shocking enough... compared to many fellow reefers' sps...

pls enlighten me of any simple ways to keep sps... although i only keep a few...

thanks again! smile.gif
Warmest Regards,
Jones

I'm no expert, but in my humble opinion, a low nutrient, low bio-load environment that provides sufficient and not overfeeding to fishes, combined with sufficient lighting (strong yet pleasing to the human eye) with wide-spread reflectors, and finally excellent water parameters (mag, cal, kh, nitrate, ph) provides a growing environment for sps with good colouration.
