Hi all,

have decided to migrate our server to a local server, anyone have any lobang to intro?

Also, am looking for ideas to improve the traffic here as I have been "away" for some time now due to work and also personal life stuffs etc etc....

Some of the members have already given me some ideas but I would like to hear more from everyone! =)

Any input, or even criticism is welcomed and you can also PM me...

Thanks in advance! =)

1) get the sponsors to update new products here as often as they can....skimmers, additives, coral food, etc...there r some sponsors here rather inactive..it's a chicken and egg issue...if they update often, reefers will tune here more often...

2) review TOTM for nano and big tanks...if dun have, at least have feature tank of the month

3) yes, allow more space to upload more pictures...i have to resize till 400 x 400 in order to upload one picture....

4) get more sponsors from overseas...where we can get their products via online payment such as premium aquatics, bulk reef supply, etc....

5) have absolutereef.com posters display at some of the sponsors' shops...like iwarna, aquamarin, ML, reborn....

6) start a facebook

7) appoint new moderators who have the potential to spice things up here...for eg, jackywong, petertee, ar neo, etc....

8) organise group lfs outings...if u have new moderators...they can do that job for u

9) re-set your criteria to be a senior reefer...for eg, min of 500 posts and allow members to change your title instead of 1,000 posts b4 they can do that

10) YOU have to come back to reefing hobby to relign your passion...even if it is just a 2ft nano...

here is some of my opinion ... keke

1) we should start off with a new moderator team or maybe add in some more active member to be a moderator here ...

2) temporary take out the flood control because currently the active member or traffic is not that big as last time ...

3)we as a member also can help out admin work keke if all depend on admin also hard lo keke ...

4)we need to know the server bandwidth ( not sure correct spelling boh keke) if let say it small we can actually link the photo back from other side such as photobucket ... sometime if we didn't set the max file size also hard lo ... some people will just upload it then when open wah so big until monitor can't see the whole pic keke ...

5)refer the above issue ... if we can save the monthly rental on server ... then cost to maintain this forum can be keep low as well ...

just a 2 cent opinion from a newbie member ...

What is your priority? Speed or cost?
I am using Hostso for my forum for its price.

Wow! was definitely not expecting so many responses within such a short time frame... All I can say for now is : I heard you! smile.gif

For the time being while I am looking though all suggestions, I have made the following changes:

1) Max size per post is increased from 120kb (existing) to 200kb.

I would have to review this if required as having a bigger size per post may lead to the page loading slower, which is why most forums restrict the size per post. I definitely do not want to use the "thumbnail feature" where all pics appear as thumbnails and only enlarge in size when you click on it, having thumbnails would definitely reduce viewing pleasure.

2) Flood Control is reduced from 30secs (existing) to 15secs.

Flood control is a feature in place to prevent bots from spamming posts and possibly forcing the site to crash under extreme loads. I might reduce it further if I feel safe enough to do it in the future.

So there it is... my respond to all your voices... at least for now... as I continue to explore and consider all other suggestions. Thanks and do keep them coming!! thanx.gif

Hi, for everyone enjoyment and learning experiences from this forum,
control of what can be input here should be very minimal, that is keep
this forum as democratic and as free speech as possible;
of course within the law .... that is no racist, or demeaning remarks.

I think everyone here are great and with good intentions with occasional jokes, dirty jokes,
which we need now and then.

Moderator is fine, but should not act like policeman/judge .... smile.gif

And besides that, the look and feel of this forum can always be improved.

Cheers!

Personally I think it is also a good idea NOT to have mods here.
Moderators really can be a double edge sword.
If you get good moderators, then they may be a catalyst factor for the forum growth.
But vice versa, if unsuitable candidates are given the role, then it will create cliques and unhappiness.

Anyway most of us are adults and if there is anyone that crosses the line, I am sure others will step in to herd the lost sheep back in line. I think it is really warm & friendly here and we should try to maintain the community atmosphere instead of implementing too vast a change.
