Wa... 1st day kana test by boss liao... ooh2.gif

hmmm k... let see... the rarest frogfish around.. hmmm ... i believe it will be the Rodless or Cryptic Anglerfish (Histophryne cryptacantha) peace.gif

Some info on this family
Sci name: Histiophryne cryptacantha
Common name: Rodless or Cryptic Anglerfish
Max. size: 9.0 cm

Climate: subtropical
Distribution: Western Pacific.
Biology: Found inshore on reefs (Ref. 7300) but has been recorded to a depth of 130 m (Ref. 9563). Adults found with sponges or ascidians (Ref. 48635). Oviparous. (taken from May, J.L. and J.G.H. Maxwell. 1986. (Ref. 9563) )

personally i only saw it once in singapore... it is so far the rarest one for me smile.gif.... shocked.gif many may look alike but if reali to look closer .at the number of dosalfin bone , boby length , skin colouration etc.. this is one rare froggie ..

And I like this, pic taken from www.starfish.ch :

that would be a Antennarius striatus, Striated Frogfish smile.gif
found normally in Tropical West Atlantic and Indo-Pacific; South Africa to Japan and New Zealand, in mud or sand bottoms, often associated with sponges. To seven inches. Aquarium and N. Sulawesi photos. Distinguished from the similar appearing A. hispidus by its worm-like esca. Many pseudonyms (28) exist for this species, including A. scaber. Males with more tufts/camouflage than females.

it is quite normally found in lcoal fish shop for this frogfish... happen to saw almost 5 of them at AM last dec laugh.gif tongue.gif

laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif the 2nd one is also under the family of the Cryptic Anglerfish .. i was thinking the colouration may be due to it surrounding.. the froggie simply change it colour to blend into surrounding maybe a brain coral...

I rem discussing this with bro shawncl??? hehe rite bo bro shawn??? wat are ur comments ??

Hi guys ...

Could like to have a open discussion on nitrate, nitrite N copper treatment on froggies... Would like to hear some views and comments smile.gif....

In the begining times of my frogfish keeping... used to have problems on the NO2, NO3 and copper on my froggies.. cry.gif lost a few commerson frog back then .... sad.gif

As froggies produce quite a lot of waste frequent water changes are required everynow and then to keep the bio load low .. therefore when NO3 are on the high end than normal... i notice that the froggies thends to have "pop" and blur eyes.. normally following to strave themselves.. sooner or later.. death follows...

So to solve this problem... is water changes the only way ???

the other thing is Copper on the froggies......
Frogfish are quite sentative to copper treatment and meyth blue treatment... therefore when the frogfish start to have "bugs" or fall sick... how to go about giving treatment???

one thing's for sure...no fresh water dip for froggies...

one of mine had blur eyes and slime-like stuff on its mouth...i tried a fresh water dip and it started breathing even heavier...n died in the end....

so sad....

henry has this medication that comes in tablet form...heard it is super good and can work on frogfish...medicine is also reef-safe laugh.gif

yap .. i did that same mistake once too... tongue.gif.. i dip newly bought commerson in a fresh water bath!!!!... during that time. i have two other froggie both are around the size of 1.5".. wanted to rid off any "bugs" on the new one.. afraid tat it would affect the other... the same thing happen as urs.... it started breathing even heavier...n died in the end....

in the end

i started to ask around.. some of the answers tat lead to the death were PH burn of the froggie outer skin and internal organs... rummors tat froggies do not have fish scales..!!!!!!!!! froggie need proper acclimatisation.. to reduce the stress stock of transportation tongue.gif

the slime like stuff on the mouth seems like the froggie is suffering from mouth rot...

Tell me more on the henry medication... hehehe didn't know of this laugh.gif.....

copper seems to be fatal too... juz like rearing sharks... once incontact with copper... heavy breathing followed by slow death from my observations...
