Very sian of keeping clams already... Had a few.. all open fine for quite sometime but suddenly perish one fine day(not all die at same day)... The mantle just curl in and there goes the clam...

Seems like alot of clams these days are affected by something definately not pyramid snails(no sign of pinching at all).... Gotta ask my fren vili whats wrong with the clam cultured area..

me and a few of my frens experience such a thing... hmm anyone experiencing something like that :( :(

My clams are wiped out also .....  . Now clamless for abt 6mths liao.

The clams would look ok and then 1 fine day , 1 started to shrink, the rest will follow .
I find that if I left the a little shrunken ( just starting to shrink ) clam in the tank , the next one will follow
very soon . If I remove the it at the initial stage , the others will take longer before showing symptons.

I managed to save some of my clams during the first round of attack by removing the affected clams
at the early stage. I can't save them from a secong round of attack after introducing a new clam 6 mths
later as I'm tied down with work , thus unable to remove the affected clam till too late.

Anyone else has any experience to share on this?

any sight of bristle worms... or shrimp that may disturb the clam... esp so when the clam is place on the sand bed... bristle worms have been witness on stressing the clam and some may even feed on it... and all this happen during the night... hope this help....

well, at least for scarab and me, it was the dreaded clam disease as the rest of the clams succumbed to the disease along with the new additions.

no wonder LFS not bringing in the nice ones....people having problem keeping and stop buying.....:(

Personally, i have got it once also, but didn't give up....:p....now whenever i find my clams behaving funnily, i would take it out for inspection, and if cannot find anything wrong, do a fresh water dip on it...seems to be working as my last dip was 6 months back and currently they still look quite happy and healthy.....:p
I want this frag

I had 2 clams so far, longest around 6-9 months seems ok. I heard from a fellow reefer that not to place clams on sandbed, somehow or rather it will eventually melt off due to certain diseases, hence I place it on LR and let it secure itself in place. Could that be the reason ??? U guys place yr clams on sandbed ?
