This is the first time I'm reading the article in this site and must said it's well done and I like it very much.
- May I suggest maybe to include photos of the four types of snail you mentioned : Trochus, Astraea, Nerite and Strombus snails.
- Sorri, what is IPSF?
- Also may I know the 'shelf lives' of those snails and hermit crabs? How long do they usually live in the tank?
- As for hermit crabs, can the cheap one or two dollars type will do? Must it be those blue legged type?
- Introduction of macroalgae in sump; maybe some slight mentioned of the lights in terms of wattage and K and how long to turn it on will be better. Also for macroalgae in sump, is it possible to use onli blue light instead of white?
Thanks.
Hi chrisyew!
thanks for the compliments on our newsletter.
-we do not have sources for all the types of snail, as we are concentrating more on the controlling of algae, intense pictures of snails are not included. sorry about that, but you can go to
http://liveaquaria.com/product/scateg.cfm?pCatId=526 to have a rough image of what the snails look like if you need it.
-IPSF: Indo-Pacific Sea Farm, an online distributor of marine livestock.
-Hermits and snails can last you forever if there is sufficient amount of "food" for them to graze and feed on.
-Some hermits aren't safe such as the Red-Legged Hermit. They'll tear your corals apart for no dick or jane reason. The Electric Blue Hermit is well known for its reef friendliness thus, many reefers recommend it for a part of your tank cleaning crew.
-Personally, we do not experiment on algaes aside from our tank. We will however, be most happy to bring you another article on MacroAlgaes and their requirement.
Really appreciate your kind suggestions.
The team will look into it.
Be more than happy to serve the community and you!
