These algae invaded my tank 3 months ago and i was forced to shut down my tank, throw away all the heavily algae-infested LR , and recycle my tank again..

Now, finally i'v fully cycled my tank for 4 weeks, with about 60% coralline covered on the LRs.

Recently just added in some corals and turn on the daylight tube ... and now , those algae is back !! grrr mad.gif

First i need to know is .. is this called hair algae ? to me , it looks like some sorta caulerpa.. please advise

Second, what can i do with these algae now ?!!

My NO3 is almost undetectable using Salifert and PO4 remains unknown, but i'm running Rowaphos all the time.

Shall i just leave them grow as wat it is ? or get algae cleaner team ?

The rocks itself leaches po4, it'll be awhile (it can take months to years) before you can have rocks almost-free from algae, continue to maintain good parameters, use of po4 removal media, change water often and get some more fishes like tangs to eat the algae... smile.gif

i guess i really need to get a BT .. i used to keep one baby tang, but doesnt really help too much in reducing the hair algae... they just perk on it ocassionally...

not goin to keep a BT again , as my tank is too small for them .. just a 40 gal tank.

hrmm algae blenny ? i doubt they will take this kinda hair algae.. do they ?

IME, different tangs eat different algae... there's never a 100% certainty for any kind of algae... sometimes it needs a little luck! smile.gif

No creatures will eat such long algae.
You just got to pull them put manually.
Put an algae eater in your tank.
Sometimes you see them pecking on rocks, you never know what they're eating. they could be pecking on algae that we can't see that might eventually cause an outbreak.

It looks like what fuel mention. I agree with Royal that u need to manually pull it out to make it shorter. I saw with my own eyes rabbit fish nip at bryopsis in LFS. You might want to try some to control them. (Not sure if they really eat but will be a good addition for nuisance algae).

Don't think hermit will help but the famous Sea Hare is the best IMO eyebrow.gif

Will seahare topple rocks or corals when they climb up the rockwork?
