Been fighting algae on my rocks for months now and I finally had enough!!! Some of the algae on the rocks were so dense I dun tink coralline algae would ever grow for months!!! I tried using toothbrush (yes, even with Oral-B) but it doesn't seem effective enough...

The LAST STRAW!!!!!

Got this for 5 bucks at the hardware store... it is a metal bristle brush used for brushing files... a few brushes on the liverocks and everything came off like a lawn-mower running through a field!! w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif

Result: Trouble spots with thick algae growth now resembles a patch of white rock!! tongue.gif At least the coralline algae has a chance to grow now!! thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif thumbsup.gif

Try it!!! w00t.gif w00t.gif w00t.gif

3 versions available. Brass, steel and stainless steel. For peace of mind better get the stainless steel ones. Used that before. Very effective.

Another way is to patch with epoxy then remove the epoxy patch few weeks later.

I ever read on the net, it is not advisable to brush the live rock. more algae will grow on the "clean" rock. It's like cleaning for them to grow. the best is to harvest them as much as possible, and starve them. wink.gif
But do keep us update...... wink.gif

Very effective in removing the surface of the rocks of algae... coralline algae would come off too, but generally th po4 would be attached to the surface of the rocks, hence the scrubbing action would help release the po4 adhere to the surface, hopefully the skimmer would help to skim everything out fast and the rock can be free of the nuisance algae with a chance for coralline to grow... smile.gif

I suggest you scrub your coralline algae more offten instead. This is to kick start the coralline algae bloom laugh.gif Slowly, the war will start eyebrow.gif

Actually I only brushed some trouble spots... didn't brush everywhere, there are still areas within the tank that I cant reach... hopefully the brush will last and not rust that fast... tongue.gif
