Can just get those feeder type and slowly convert them to SW? Cos i think not many will be sucessfully converted to SW...

Can try mainland in Paris Ris farmway. They had good quality salifin mollies. The silver colored (more whitish actually) are nice tongue.gif Not so easy to find pure colored ones.

I dunno about sailfin but I definately know normal FW mollies do not clear any algae. I had one FW molly converted by chance, to marine. Had that few years back when I had a 2ft. Kept it for more than 1/2 yr and never seen it pecking on algae before.

I have read in a Book (forgot title) that black wild mollies usually found in swamps are more suitable for long term survival in saltwater environment as compared to hybrid mollies....

Not that they die easily but like most blackwater fishes (guppies, platies etc) they prefer water that is towards the alkaline side inside of slightly acidic water like other freshwater fishes.

Agree with Losmandy.

Mollies are from brackish water thus prefers water with a little salinity and alkalinity.

Problems with mollies is that:

1) Almost all mollies available are captive bred and may developed likings to prepared food rather than algae.
2) Mollies are considered cheap, common and abundant thus little is done to ensure that they are kept in optimum conditions.
3) Demands for mollies have drop also due to the availability of more 'exotic' fishes such as cichlids and killies.
4) Mollies like all fishes will developed health problems if their basic water parameters are not met.

Personally, I have tried mollies before and find that they are more suitable for a brackish biotope rather than a reef biotope that we are try to establish.

Fri: Bought a large 2.5 inch orange sailfin molly from Darwin.
Sat: lower tip of its tail got bitten, it stayed near the surface, not eating algae
Sun: half its tail got bitten, stayed near the surface, not eating algae
Mon: half its body got bitten, lying on the bottom, became fish food

Problem is I've got a triggerfish...
