Emm.. not in the strict sense, like mentioned above leh..

I connect a single channel dosing pump to a 15 min timer to dose NaHCO3(baking soda). Hv to make up for the loss of 2.5dkh everyday. After factoring in the loss in SG, with a more diluted one, the solution is made to last for about 2 weeks, then must make again.

Calcium is drip dosed... blush.gif No more sockets outlets for timers. I use anhydrous CaCl2 to make a saturated solution with RO/DI water... use about 250ml to replace 30ppm loss of Ca per day.

Mg is drip dosed sometimes on a bi-monthly basis.

Strat, aren't you using a CR?

Yep using CR. It seems to be a more effective method as compared to CR.

I still believe that with a CR, properly tuned, you get the best growth rates, plus can be quite headache free.

Dosing does take time, and sometimes, you jus don't have that time... can only do when you come back, it truly helps to know ur tank consumption well.. that way you'll know, this time round cannot missed. laugh.gif So most times you hardly over-dosed, maybe thats why the growth is somewhat on the slow side. smile.gif

I've read a post in RC and agree very much with it. One fella says, that manual dosing is good for tanks under 75G, that he wud never use a CR on one lesser than 75G, unless its completely full of SPS...

Hey, wanna swap with me, try for one month.. I pass you all the stuff needed and u loan me ur CR.... then see how. biggrin.gif eyebrow.gif

Think this method is pretty common for most of us who have done Planted tank b4. The key is the measurement of the various parameter.

You can speak to this guy. Very friendly and he will answer all your questions about his own style of the 'Balling Method'. I've read lots about it, but I can't get hold of the chemicals myself.

His name is Ralf Phrehn and he owns one of my favorite Reef Aquariums.
