Hi everyone, hope to get some advice from u all on this...

My ABT has been with me for more than a month already...it's still in my qt n eating extremely well..

It recovered (I think) from previous black n white ich attack about 2 wks ago n there r no visible spots except 1 white spot/fungus on it's 'side' fin that doesn't seem to go away...

Now the prob is it's still 'scratching' the sand n breathing rapidly...
Is this a sign that all is not well despite the active swimming n constant looking for food?

The rest of the fish in my qt r breathing normally...

NO3 = 10ppm
NH4 = 0.25ppm
NO2 = 0ppm

I'm doing a hypo at 1.012 n dosing myxazin...
Is there anything else I need to do?

I'm v worried that my beloved ABT might not make it despite the active outlook...

Can you elaborate on how you have done the hypo in detail? Too quick in reducing the S.G. of the water can result in adverse effects in the fish... and what kind of dosage of Myxazin have you used on the QT? Are you running a skimmer and do you provide aeration of any kind to the QT?

your nh4 is high. do some waterchange or something.
fish can suffer from ammonia poisoning which can kill them.
alot of my old fishes died in a period of time due to that

Actually I followed the Method B given on this website...

http://saltaquarium.about.com/od/hyposalin...yposalinity.htm

I removed half my 3ft tank of water n top up with fresh water (buffered pH)...
That was almost a month ago...

As for Myxazin I followed the instructions n give half dose (i.e. 2.5ml) every 12hrs...
inbetween I stopped for a few days after I stop seeing white spots but start dosing again after seeing abit of spots again...

I'm running a weipro skimmer for this qt but since it always suck up the myxazin, I kept it running with the air inlet sealed...still c some mini bubbles so tot that will b gd for aeration...no other aeration though..

btw I think the white dot on the 'side' fin seems too big to b ich...could it b fungus?

The big white patch could be fungus.... do you have a pic?

Did you happen to watch the pH when dosing the Myxazin? Some medications can cause a drop in pH or deprive the water of oxygen I think... so important to provide enough aeration...

Suggest you do a partial water change, dun add other chemicals if possible... smile.gif

I think a picture of the fin is almost impossible esp with my lousy dc...I can't even get a clear pic of the ABT itself...

I din check the pH when dosing myxazin...but my pH did drop from 8.1 to 8.0 in my weekly check...this despite dosing seachem pH buffer...

btw I'm already running a canister filter + seio m650 + weipro skimmer (air inlet sealed)...do u think I should add an airpump for my qt just in case the rapid breathing is really due to low oxygen?

When was the last time you cleared the canister filter?

I just clean it 3 days ago...removed all the coral chips...now only left wool, pura nitratelock, pura complete n seachem nitrate remover inside...

it seems to stay away from light whenever it's not searching for food...n with the rapid breathing...all point to ich...but i dun c anything visible except the fungus...

Is there anything else I can do besides medication n hypo?

leave the tank lights off so that it doesnt get more stress.. does it have any shelter in the QT? if no, try to build one for it to hide within it

Yes I gave it 2 piles of LR for shelter already...it seems more afraid of the lights (normal FL) than me...cos when I'm there it'll come up to me...but sometimes it'll hid under my seio which is right in front part of the tank...

I dun get it...I'm dosing myxazin n hypo the tank...how come it still behave like the ich is still thr? esp the heavy breathing...really dun get it.. sad.gif

The medication could be depriving the oxtgen levels... anyway, did you try stopping the medication?

Yes, but it would take several weeks.... how old is your tank?

Bro, installing a UV might help.
My PT and RG also kana white spot. After installing UV, the itch starts to clear up. biggrin2.gif
Regular partial water changes also helps.

My 2 cents worth. 35.gif
