recently got myself new Weipro pH probe to replace my Dernelle pH controller probe for my CR
but somehow my CR is not working right.
to my surprise i found out my weipro pH probe tip (sensor area) grow some hairy algae!!! this is affecting my reading. so my CR when crazy causing my tank kH/pH low. blink.gif chair.gif cry.gif
so i wonder how can hairy grow on the tip of the probe only? my CR is shaded & no sign of any other algae grow. eyebrow.gif

Phosphate and Sliicate are the some of the culprits contributing to algae growth and suggest you check your PO4. wink.gif

laugh.gif sorry I couldn't help it. I can jus imagine what the probe must be telling the CR to do, when it photosynthesizes. Thats someting to keep in mind when using employin one.

Hardly strange, though. The tip is leaching PO4. You only need to know why phosphate is added to make plastic. I think the agent is calleed 'plasticizer', or lookup, phosphate hydrolysis in PVC.

Agreed with LS... strange incident but might be due to a leaching of po4... in fact many things in the tank contributes to the leaching of po4, like PVC pipes, the powerheads etc etc, just that very often, one might not realise... smile.gif

Bro,

Your tank too clean liao until algae has no place to grow but to grow on your 'slightly contaminated' pH probe...... biggrinbounce2.gif ignore.gif

smile.gif Jokes aside, take it out, disconnect from you pH monitor, soak it in a bit of vinegar for an hour or so then into DI water overnight. You should be ok. You actually need to condition your pH probe by soaking it in DI water overnight before you use it anyway. Not sure if you did that.
