Dont think T8 has the intensity or wattage or enough spectrum for SPS but okay for fish only systems and low-light corals or rather the light can't penetrate the water as well as T5 or MH.

At least 6 tubes for a 4' tank but would prefer 8 tubes of T5 HO for maximum light output.
However 6 tubes almost equates to 2 x 150W MH

Bro waterzoo has answered your questions right
As for T8 don't think many of us has tried hence not much answers for that.
For T5 depending on your tank size I would go for the max number of tubes.

Bros WaterZoo and Losmandy had answered your questions regarding the application of T8 lights in SPS environment and recommended T5 HO instead.
Echoed the same views regarding T5 and suggest min 6 tubes or ideally 8 tubes.
Hope you got a better understanding of lighting in SPS environment.

you cannot really get the best of the HO T5 tubes from a normal T5 unit, because of the ballast.
anyway, i suppose you can keep sps with T8, just that the sps will not keep therie colours and will all turn brown.. just my 2 cents, hope i am not wrong..

try spelling "stressed" backwards for the cure!

dats a possibility... they turn brown and not grow much due to a lack of light...
