my cousin is thinking of getting either a froggies or Lionfish to eat up all the damsels in his tank.

problem is, i seriously hv doubts in both of them being able to wean to frozen shrimps once they are done with their role, if they are successful... laugh.gif

that being said, he has anemone and torch, which i read is not suitable for froggies but being in a big tank, should be fine...

prob now.. wat should i get, froggies or lionfish?
is froggies, wat size? i dun wan it to eat the blue tang or purple tang the size of more than 5" leh.. sad.gif

Lionfish would be better in clearing damsel IMO... Frogfish might take a longer time... BTW how big is the tank and the damsel...

Both lion or frog got their pro and cons. laugh.gif Lion faster so can catch damsel faster. But if you wanna catch it more difficult. Frog slower so take ages to catch damsels and damsels are veri fast and smart like my clown.
But if you wanna catch the frog infuture, no worries man! laugh.gif

If your cousin's tank is a FOWLR, he can try to remove the damsels by draining the water in the main tank to a level whereby they can be easily catch while restricting much movement ninja.gif

Froggies seems to be slow in movement but do lionfish spend most of their time near the water surface? huh.gif

The lionfish after cleaning all the damsels, will start to eat other fishes. what other fishes is there in the tank. If ur cousin get sting by the lionfish - he will remember for life. Once a guy told me that he was stinged by a lionfish. He felt the sting all the way to the tip of his hair. he said he used hot wax to removed the sting. Just in case, anyone ever need a home quick fix for a lionfish sting. biggrin2.gif

Like Bro Izzdat suggested, looking at the objective, i think removing part of the tank water is still the fastest and sure way to get rid of the damsels....and most humane way also. Damsels are also lives mah...Thereafter, the damsels can be donated to reefers who appreciate them. biggrin.gif

Rather than bringing in a froggie or lionfish, praying that it catches all the damsels, and later still got to remove the killer again...

it is a one panel viewing and thus, tons of rocks... even if i lower the water level, they remain hidding in the rocks, no way i can catch them out... i tot of this before.. and the next qn that gonna hit me (knowing my cousin) is, since we removed the water, might as well remove the coral chip sandbed and rocks.. i end up machiem like doing a brand new scaping for him... and not getting paid for it... no tks.. laugh.gif

look at it from another pt, once the "killers" had done wif their jobs, i'll open them up for adoption.. problem solved.. those damsels bite the hands that feed them too.. so, time to meet their maker.. hahaha..
