I was surfing the and came across this article.

Thanks for the link bro... interesting article! Read an article some time ago with regards to the colouration of SPS corals but now all forgot all... biggrin2.gif biggrin2.gif

the purpose of the pigment is said to be to protect the coral itself and the zoox from over exposure from too intense light and UV. however, from what i read, it might not be true as the although the pigment does shield light, it shields only from spectrum from non visible and those apart from uv. i believe there are other real uses for the different pigments
